Research and joint projects

Here you will find an overview of our current and completed research and joint projects. Further information on the specific projects can be found in the menu.

Ongoing projects

International Doctorate Programme “Business and Human Rights: Governance Challenges in a Complex World”  (IDP)

https://www.business-humanrights.fau.eu/ The programme “Business and Human Rights: Governance Challenges in a Complex World”, funded by the Elite Network of Bavaria, creates an inter- and transdisciplinary research forum for excellent doctoral projects that deal with practical problems and theoretically sound questions in the field of Business and Human Rights. The IDP’s research profile is based on the core disciplines of law and management and is supplemented by sociology, political science and information science. The research of the fellows focuses on global value chains and transnational economic governance, migration and changing labour relations, digital transformation and environmental sustainability.

IMPACT E³ – Impact-oriented entrepreneurship qualification

https://www.impacte3.de/ Impact entrepreneurship is very complex: entrepreneurial activity that aims to bring about change towards greater sustainability in the economy, society and culture pursues several, often competing goals. In addition to their profitability, entrepreneurial projects are aligned and evaluated according to the extent to which they have a social impact and correspond to or even promote an ecologically sustainable transformation (triple bottom line). In addition to the plurality of goals, there is also a variety of possible fields of action, including the necessary competencies. The United Nations 2030 Agenda defines 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), all of which can be addressed through impact entrepreneurship. Consequently, the academic qualification for impact-oriented entrepreneurship must also take these different competencies, fields of action and spatial impact areas (urban / rural) into account. However, a university alone cannot fully cover this. For this reason, the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), the Ansbach University of Applied Sciences (HSA) and the Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences (HSWT) have joined forces to form a Central Franconian network.

Completed projects

SmartHaPSS – Harmonization of the development of complex product smart service systems at KMU

The BMBF-funded research project “SmartHaPSSS” aims to identify ways to harmonize the development of smart products and services as well as new business models while taking sustainability aspects into account.
In doing so, value creation and damage creation potentials and risks, which result from the increasing spread and use of the Internet in linking products, processes and services, are addressed.
As a result, agile methods and processes for harmonized, sustainable product-smart service systems to tap additional innovation potential will be developed and transferred into concrete tools and methods.

EFI Projekt „Sustainable Smart Industry“

Industry 4.0 denotes the intelligent digitalisation and the network of the industrial value creation. The German Government’s High-Tech Strategy considers Industry 4.0 as an essential future project for securing Germany’s global competitiveness. This research project aims to bring out – beyond the primarily investigated technical aspects – the diverse potential benefits and challenges related to the transition to Industry 4.0, in which economic, ecological, and social aspects and their interaction with technological developments and solutions are investigated.

CODIFeY – Community-basierte Dienstleistungs-Innovation für e-Mobility

The collaborative research project CODIFeY is based on the assumption that the technology itself does not prevent the spreading of electric mobility. The aim of the project is to provide scientifically qualified information and to inspire more users for electric mobility. In addition, innovative services related to e-mobility will be developed and implemented.
